Flight tests began on 16 August 1944 (pilot: Siegfried Holzbaur[1]), with the aircraft displaying extremely good handling characteristics, as well as revealing some of the problems of the forward-swept wing under some flight conditions. The most notable of these drawbacks was 'wing warping', or excessive in-flight flexing of the main-spar and wing assembly. Tests suggested that the warping problem would be eliminated by concentrating greater engine mass under the wings. This technical improvement would be incorporated in the subsequent prototypes. The 287 was intended to be powered by four Heinkel-Hirth HeS 011 engines, but because of the development problems experienced with that motor, the BMW 003 was selected in its place. The second and third prototypes, V2 and V3, were to have employed six of these engines, in a triple cluster under each wing. Both were to feature the all-new fuselage and tail design intended for the production bomber, the Ju 287A-1. V3 was to have served as the pre-production template, carrying defensive armament, a pressurised cockpit and full operational equipment. Personally, I'd like to have a split tree with larger medium and heavies separate from fast medium/light bombers, so the IL-28 would go in the end of the schnellbomber line. When landing, slotted flaps could fall by 40 degrees, and ailerons could hover by 23 degrees, providing the required wing lift. Two of the four Jumo 004 turbofan engines were attached to the nose of the fuselage, the rest under the wing. The flying model was assigned the designation Ju. 287 V1.

Back when there were release trees that Gaijin followed, this was on the second iteration of the German release tree.  I suppose it could be an event plane since we have flight data, though for the main tech tree it might be best to just give them an East German IL-28 to cap it off before transitioning to tactical fighter-bombers.

That said, there is one issue: the variant we have flight data for is the V-1, which was most definitely NOT combat-worthy (it had fixed landing gear from an He 177 ffs).  The earliest prototype that would've been up to operational specifications would've been the V-3, which didn't fly...but was the variant that was on the old release tree.  There is, however, an alternative in the form of the OKB-1 150, designed by the same guy who developed the Ju 287 oddly enough, albeit for the Soviets.  While largely screwed over in its original bomber form by Soviet bureaucracy, it did fly in a modified form (a couple of prototype airliners, specifically) designated the Baade 152.
