Nike Zoom Fly Sizing (self.Sneakers). submitted 2 years ago by MiDenn. In the past years I've only been wearing Adidas shoes but both my current super stars and ultraboosts are size 12 The Zoom Fly SP celebrates the push to break the two hour marathon barrier. The 'Tokyo' edition of the runner features a red and white mesh construction wrapped in a translucent overlay Since the concept shoe is out of bounds for us lesser mortals, the publicly available models are the Zoom Vaporfly 4% and the Zoom Fly. Both these shoes have a design language and feature set which is inspired by the athlete-only shoe. All three models have an upper with similar aesthetics and a midsole with the unique plate embedded within. The Zoom Fly 3 feels stiff and responsive. It’s aggressive enough for racing, yet the thick midsole makes it substantial enough for daily use. Lakota Gambill My first impression of the Zoom Fly 3 was an audible “slap,” the sound it made hitting the pavement. I didn’t like the shoe at first; it felt overly stiff and not cushioned enough to overcome the unforgiving carbon plate. (Try bending this shoe with your hand and you’ll see what I mean.) ZoomX foam, like you’ll find in the Vaporfly shoes and Pegasus Turbo 2 trainer, has an elastic property that makes it feel like an extension of your lower leg muscles, and the React foam/carbon fiber construction of the Zoom Fly 3 feels nothing like that. Also, the quick snap-back response from the rear end of the Nylon plate will be diluted if you’re going slow.
The rearfoot is a great blend of cushioning and responsiveness, without any hint of marshmallowy-ness one would expect of a 33 mm foam stack. If you’re mentally trying to compare the ride of the Hoka Clifton or the Bondi, then let us make your task easier. This design gives the Zoom Fly its distinctly responsive feel, making transitions fast even for a shoe this cushioned. Since the thinner end of the plate is ‘floating’ inside a thick stack of rearfoot foam, it has a far greater range of movement than, say, a Mizuno Wave Plate.Flip the shoe over, and you’ll observe that the most of the outsole coverage is concentrated under the forefoot. There are a couple of reasons for this. One is that adding lots of rubber adds rigidity, which helps quicker roll-offs. The forefoot outsole isn’t rock hard either; the rubber used is a soft kind, similar to what’s used on the Vomero 12.
Outside of Nike, you can substitute the Pegasus with the Saucony Ride 10, and the Streak LT3 with the New Balance 1400V5. Ok, technically speaking, the 1400V5 is more a counterpart to the Streak 6 than the LT3.. The Lunarlon core is much thicker inside the forefoot than it is the rear.
Compared with HOKA trainers, on uneven ground, it’s quite easy to roll an ankle. I did also notice that with the pentagon pattern on the bottom of the shoe it’s quite easy for very small stones to get stuck in it’s not as bad as an ON shoe but a minor annoyance. Thanks to the vertically placed Flywire cords, the midfoot fit is very secure while feeling smooth inside. The foot is held in place both by the slim midsole waist and the network of cords straining over.
- The Engineered Mesh with perforations at strategic locations ensures a fully ventilated environment inside the shoe for the runner. It also provides a snug and secure fit with the help of Dynamic Flywire technology.Distinct it may be, but the Zoom Fly isn’t for everyone. The stiff forefoot punishes those running any slower than a 6:50/mile (4:20/km) pace; because when you go slow, the foot tries to bend the forefoot instead of rolling over it.After about 80 miles in them, the traction was showing heavy wear. I doubt I’ll get the desired 300 miles out of the Zoom Fly 3, 200-250 miles seems like a more realistic target. That’s not unexpected with a shoe that proclaims itself race-day ready, but it’s also marketed as an everyday shoe. It would be nice to get more miles from the outsole.
I can’t actually remember, but I’m pretty sure the break-in experience was pleasant too – no tightness of relaxing of materials necessary.. While the feel of soft foam creates a cushioned feel underfoot
The Zoom Fly 3 is a polarizing shoe, both praised and criticized by the Runner’s World staffers who have tested it. If I wanted a fast-feeling Nike for everyday use, I’d spring for the Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2, which feels more stable and forgiving underfoot. But you’ll like the Zoom Fly 3 if you want a tall, aggressive, up-tempo shoe that somehow works well at every pace.As with other shoes, there are varying friction surfaces on the bottom of the sole. The forefoot in completely covered in a high friction material and there are 5 main points on the heel with the same material. For this event, Nike designed a concept shoe called the Zoom Vaporfly Elite. It had Nike’s brand new ZoomX midsole foam along with a Carbon fiber plate, and its distribution was extremely limited – used only by the athletes who participated in the breaking 2 project. The Good. Thomas: Out of the box the Zoom Fly Flyknit 2 feels like a bouncy cushioned trainer. Knowing React foam from the Epic React, Odyssey React, and the Turbo.. The outsole of the shoes is not a bad upgrade either. With full rubber on the forefoot, you will have immediate traction when running. This feeling maintains well in time as well, mainly due to the carbon-infused nylon design.
Tongue - As you can see, the tongue is offset (like it a lot), it helps hug the foot and stays in placeThe Vaporfly 4% has a whopping $100 upcharge over the Zoom Fly. In return, you get an upper design which is far more minimal and breathable than the Zoom Fly, and has the inner strapping system instead of Flywire. This gives the Vaporfly better midfoot lock-down properties than the Zoom Fly.
Unlike most running shoes, the Zoom Fly’s heel is tapered upwards right in the center instead of being biased outwards, so expect that to aggravate the wear and tear situation if you’re landing on the trailing edge.. What you see on the outside is the EVA foam casing; inside, there’s a separate (and softer) Lunarlon core with the stiff Nylon plate below it.
The tongue has no padding at all. Most of it is made of composite mesh, and the flap has fused synthetic for strength. The flap edges which come in contact with the foot are lined with soft artificial suede – this is something which we’ve seen on past Streak models. The achilles pillows are a nice touch though I wish they had put a little more padding over the seams at the rear collar. They didn’t cause any hotspots for me but I’ve seen seams like that do so. Finally, the neoprene bootie collar isn’t easy to slip on and could use tabs on tongue or heel to help get them on easier. Nike Zoom Fly Conclusions. I've logged thousands of miles in Nike shoes in my lifetime, have had a few bad experiences with groundbreaking designs (namely the Nike LunarEpic Flyknit Shield shoes).. Nike Zoom Fly is a top rated road running shoe (288 ratings + 36 experts). See today's best deals from 50+ retailers. The Ultimate Buyer's Guide Drew: As long as you don’t spill over the footbed, the Nike Zoom Fly 3 will support you on roads, sidewalks, and tracks. I tested these on uneven ground and rocks to get a feel for how they’d respond. The React midsole absorbs the rocks well but there’s not enough side to side protection to avoid ankle sprains on real trails. The midsole does flare out in a sort of outrigger-like way at the forefoot but doesn’t do much due to the pliability of the React cushioning. Save these for your road and track runs. Comprar This is possibly the largest heel stack of any Nike, which means you feel like you’re on platforms to an extent but Nike manage to pull it off whilst HOKA shoes still look silly.
I will never race in any other shoe for long distance races. They are fast, responsive, cushiony and most importantly get better with miles.Sole - Just not good traction for anything but road, I wish could handle a bit more such as gravel and parts of the road that are not paved wellAn internal heel counter graces the back portion of this running shoe. This feature is meant to hold the foot in place, saving it from quivering at any point of the performance. It also makes sure to prevent the foot from exiting the interior chamber unexpectedly, thereby improving confidence and a well-realized heel-to-toe transition. For track use, we recommend the Streak LT3. While you can use the Zoom Fly on tracks, it doesn’t feel as efficient as the low profile Streak. The racing flat has a far better sense of connection with the ground, especially around bends. The heel bevel (angle) has an unusual location. Instead of being biased towards the outer side – because that’s where most rearfoot strikers would land – it is angled right up the center.
I purchased both to make up my mind. I actually found that the shoe was true to size. I have a 10.5 in all Pegasus shoes, and this was the same on sizing.Built with a carbon-infused nylon plate to maintain the shape of the outsole and for better propellingThe full forefoot of rubber for the outsole design means that you can count on the right traction when you need it most

With its fast and efficient performance, sleek and stylish looks, and plush yet responsive cushioning, the Nike Zoom Fly outperformed its many competitors in the market and certainly raised the bar for running shoes from across all brand. Also, its outstanding features apparently made it a worthwhile choice for most runners looking for a durable pair of neutral road running shoes to accompany them during their activities on the asphalt. On the other hand, the looseness of the forefoot section, the rock-magnet outsole, the easily erased rubber, and the high price were elements that didn’t gel with several consumers. For the Turbo 35 and Zoom Fly Flyknit, I had to choose US 9, but for Zoom Fly 3, I had to go to 8.5 US. Nike Zoom Fly 3 Full Review | Vaporweave vs. Flyknit? Seth James DeMoor
- The High Abrasion rubber and the Foam rubber along with the specifically shaped lugs placed at strategic locations on the outsole give an optimal combination of excellent traction, high resistance to abrasion and enhanced flexibility. These technologies, also being very durable, make sure the shoe keeps on performing very well for much longer durations of time. One of my issues. Anything other than pavement, you will regret them. I wore these for a half marathon with some gravel trail, and they were terrible. With one of the thickest foam cushioning designs on the market, the shoes feel really comfortable. Of course, the extra thickness takes from the flexibility of the shoes, but at the end of the day, they are not really made to be the most flexible options. I like the fact that they also use a combination of exposed foam and rubber for the outsole, which limits the stiffness to a degree in which the shoes can be used for performance. With great vivid colors to choose from, they also fell quite distinct in a segment where stiff shoes can come with limited color options.Internal plates or shanks aren’t a new concept. Shorter versions are commonly found in trail running shoes, racing flats and the like. The rigidity provided by the plate helps the stability and transition quality of the shoe, and in use cases like trail running, protection is the primary objective. Brand: Gyakusou x Nike. Model: Zoom Fly SP. Branding hits are featured on both sides, on the midsole, and atop the tongue. The Nike Zoom Fly SP Gyakusou is being released in limited..
A thick forefoot stack with a high toe-spring is made even more rigid by the Nylon plate, and this makes the ‘roll-off’ character of the forefoot more pronounced than a Hoka. The plate extends all the way to the heel, where it is sandwiched between the two foam layers.Don't make an immediate decision on these. Wear them around for a bit. Run in them about 20 miles. You have to get used to these and takes longer than other shoes. If no pain and just awkward, be patient. You will not regret it.When you’re running fast, the foot rolls over the stiff forefoot without any problem. But when you’re running slow, the foot will try to bend the plate-embedded forefoot during the gait cycle.
Midsole: A rigid Nylon plate and softer Lunarlon core inside an outer foam casing. 10 mm heel to toe drop. One might think that the plate is just under your heel, but it isn’t. Rather, it’s located nearly halfway through the heel stack – to be precise, splitting the midsole height in a 60:40 ratio. Meaning that 60% of the foam stack is below the hard plate, with the rest (and softer part) above it. Since the Nylon plate is securely anchored in the front, the tail-end has a relative freedom of movement. If you’re running in areas with ambient dust, the creases tend to soil easily as the dirt gets trapped in its folds. Disclosure: We are reader supported, and earn affiliate commissions when you buy through us. The outsole of the shoes is dominated by the high abrasion rubber both in the heel and in the forefoot for its entire length. With the ultimate traction, the outsole is perfect for your marathons as it can save you time in multiple conditions. The patterns of the outsole are also optimized for the best overall performance, especially when you consider that runners might encounter small rocks on race day.
I have had the honour to work with Nike Global Running on this challenging project for the launch of Zoom Fly Flyknit! - Directed by Santi Zoraidez Client: Nike The moral of the story is: If you run fast, continue reading the review. If you’re planning to use the Zoom Fly as an easy run shoe, then we strongly advise not to. Get a plate-free Hoka or a regular trainer like the Pegasus 34.With a midsole which is just as good as you’d imagine, the shoes are hard to match for versatility. Made with the Lunarlon cushioning layer, the foam is lighter than what you would be used to on training days. It is why they are highly praised for their natural feel. But the Zoom Fly technology is also improved with the carbon-infused nylon plate which has real benefits for shock absorption, propelling and even maintain the shape of the shoe for long periods of time. The RW Takeaway: With a thick React foam midsole split by a carbon fiber plate, the Zoom Fly 3 is a stiff, responsive trainer. After many miles with the shoes, the Zoom Fly shoes come with an impressively-durable upper. The knit materials are really made to a high standard, much as similar options from Nike. In terms of looks, the shoes are also designed to be modern. While they are not too daring, they come with a certain appeal which can be seen as minimalistic as well. When you take into account that they are durable as well, the shoes really become the whole package which so many runners need. On the other hand, they are not the most flexible shoes Nike has produced. Кроссовки Nike Zoom Fly 3. Eric: These fit long and narrow. If you have a narrow foot, I would recommend going a half size down on these. I took my usual size 13 but felt like I had a bit too much room in the toe box after my first run. Besides the length of the shoe, the fit on these felt fantastic. The inner booty forms great around your foot and I didn’t experience any pressure points when I was running. There is also a rather large Nike tick on the outside which I’m not a huge fan of – little ticks are still cool.
With about 1.5 inches of foam beneath your heel and an inch beneath your forefoot, the midsole feels substantial. Most of our testers said they used the shoe for long runs and speedwork alike, an indication of the shoe’s versatility. The forefoot is significantly wider than the heel; heel-striking testers expressed concern over the unstable sensation from the narrow heel. There isn’t much arch support or any pronation-limiting measures, so the tall and narrow design might not be ideal for runners used to wider, more stable trainers. With these on, I ran the same marathon for the second consecutive year. I was able to take 20 minutes off my time and the race felt better. I did not have as much leg fatigue and stayed in rhythm a lot better.Total heel stack on these shoes is 33mm, and the heel drop is 10mm which you can really feel after each step you feel like you’re racing to take the next step. The sole is not the softest I’ve used but probably the best in terms of energy return.

Inspired by Nike's Vaporfly 4% (AKA their most efficient marathon shoe), these trainers have all the tech to take your runs up a level The forefoot is ultra stiff. The internal corrugation/ridges of the plate ensure unyielding stiffness, making the forefoot inflexible. While this is purposely designed to facilitate faster roll-offs, it also helps to lock the Nylon plate in place.- In the midsole, the LunarIon foam and the full-length Carbon Infused Nylon plate maintain an environment of optimal cushioning and efficient responsiveness for the runner. The material is soft and it provides the needed support underfoot.I love a very snug shoe, but these are a bit too snug at times. I recommend going up a ½ size with these. I wore these for my last marathon, and by the end, my poor toes were a bloody mess.
Rearfoot strikers will have mixed feelings about durability. The exposed areas surrounding the rubber pods will see faster wear than the rest of the outsole, and the centered angle under the heel doesn’t help.

For the comfort and weight, they are unchallenged (assuming your budget doesn’t stretch to the Vaporfly's). When I complete the Ironman in September this will be the shoe I use!Drew: I agree with Eric that the Zoom Fly 3 feels heavy in hand but not on foot. Once you start running the amazing bounce it provides, due to the pairing of React and the carbon fiber plate, make it feel like the shoe is really pushing and helping you with every step. It’s a really nice, plush ride. A side benefit of the midsole being so heavy is that the cushion doesn’t bottom out. Ever. To test the endurance of the cushioning set up, I wore them for an entire week. 40 total miles spread over 5 straight days of running workouts, a rest day, and an 11.5 mile long run. The cushion took the punishment. There was a noticeable loss of bounce by the end of the week but the shoes were still performing at a high level. That’s unheard of among mainstream running shoes. This is one of the better cushioning setups on the market.
There isn’t much detailing over the upper – just the large Swoosh logo with ‘speed streaks,’ and the reflective strip over the heel. The strip is a novel way of showing reflectivity; when lit up, the left shoe displays the ‘Racing’ text and the Swoosh logo. The right shoe displays digits in a racing timer format – pretty cool. Caveat Emptor applies to this shoe; the Zoom Fly means serious business, so know what you’re literally stepping into before you decide to part with $150.Trust me. These shoes help your run. The energy return is awesome, and they bring forth less strain on the legs. This isn’t Nike’s first foray into the full-length plate business. Shoes in other categories like football/soccer have had carbon fiber plates, except that they were uniform in thickness. Of late, Nike running shoes seem to be taking more than a leaf out of football’s playbook. The Lunarepic Hi was inspired by a Nike football shoe, and now this.
There’s another reason why the Nylon plate is so stiff under the forefoot. Sure, the plate is thicker, but it is also corrugated. Ridges are molded lengthwise (not sideways like a flex groove), so this leaves little margin for the plate to bend. The materials do have some issues. The half neoprene/half mesh bootie gets really smelly. The neoprene portion around the collar and down what would be the tongue absorbs massive amounts of sweat and is the last part of the shoe to dry. I like how it hugs the foot, but now that my shoes are too disgusting to be used casually I wish they’d used a different material. Even touching them for this review is…not the best experience. I’m going to have to wash my hands (and keyboard) after I’m done. I just have developed a love for these things. They are wonderful for half - full marathon distances that are road only.Outsole: Softer rubber under the forefoot, multiple pieces of rubber under the heel, exposed midsole foam.

The Nike Zoom Fly men's running shoes are inspired by the Vaporfly and use a transparent Vaporweave upper for durability and lightness. It also looks pretty damn good, too While the midsole is very neutral and reasonably supportive due to the simple sidewalls design, there isn’t a lot of support at the top. The foot sits on the midsole instead of in it, and the higher stack heights lead to a higher center of gravity. My big toe had more room than usual and I may have been able to go down half a size but I decided doing so might crush my small toes. The lateral side of the shoe curves sharply and I was worried I’d lose some toenails if I went smaller. Trying them on will help if you’re worried about extra room. The Lunarlon core is also full length, with the forefoot section being considerably thicker than the rearfoot. This aligns with the design of the Nylon plate which happens to be thicker and stiffer in the front and tapers thin under the rearfoot. The mesh is lightweight and breathes well, but has more thickness than the Vaporfly. The VaporFly 4% uses a mesh which feels similar to the Streak 6; very thin and lots of pores for ventilation.
